The long-awaited sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is nearly here, and my two-hour demo of Tears of the Kingdom earlier this month strongly suggests it will have been worth the wait. It’s good to be back in Hyrule after all these years. A familiar piano tinkle informed me of my demise. A single shot blew it to kindling, which rained down on my head as I dizzily staggered to my feet. And it turns out that my flying wad of wood was every bit as rickety as it looked. No matter - once I was high enough, I’d glide toward my destination, telling the flock of club-waving Bokoblins to kiss my grits. It wobbled worryingly even before it was off the ground, but I hopped aboard, zipping upward with no way to steer. My fantabulous flying contraption consisted of three barrels stuck together in a haphazard clump beneath a hot air balloon. So it was time to plot a stealthy aerial incursion. While I appreciate the devs sticking to the original games ideas, the lack of innovation is lazy in my humble opinion. My combat skills were too rusty to infiltrate the small fortress (with strangers watching, anyway). I would have liked a more expansive world or things to find, just something to make it standout. Almost nothing has changed to the game you could pick up for pennies on the PS2. But unless you’re a fan of the original games l you might find this a bit lacking in most areas. I am going to come out and say it: GunGrave G.O.R.E should be outstanding and something everyone can get behind. There is a level up system that will allow Grave to get access to powerful attacks and melee attacks. Giving some difference in attacks, but Cerberus will be the go to. We can use the coffin as a melee weapon and a defensive knock back attack. It locks on to the closet baddie in the direction you are facing. To keep the action moving, there is an auto lock. This makes it seem like your one bad ass. The Cerberus guns will shoot four times per trigger pull. Everything is over the top and outrageous. These abilities use the coffin for massive and over the top powerful attacks, like a giant rocket that Grave will roundhouse kick into the enemies. It will also increase the Special ability meter faster. Grave gets access to different move sets. The Beat counter will increase with each hit of an item or enemies. There are way markers, but being as linear as GunGrave G.O.R.E is, they seem redundant. Move to different rooms and halls, shoot anything that moves, build up hit or ‘Beat’ counter and in leash abilities. GunGrave G.O.R.E is a simple 3rd person action game that tries to revive the PS2 games formula. Each level is ten to fifteen minutes long of almost none stop action with Grave’s oversized guns ‘Cerberus’ and the coffin he carries on his arms. You know, any game that starts each level with ‘kick their ass’ sort of sets up the type of game you are getting in to. You follow Grave on his continuing mission in this over the top action game. Grave (or Beyond The Grave) and his team have tracked down the SEED production to Scumland. The story of GunGrave G.O.R.E carries on from the last game. But is it worth playing 18 years after Gungrave: Overdose on the PS2. GunGrave G.O.R.E is the latest in a line of games based on the 2003 anime GunGrave.
